EN Garde! Sheffield United aren’t the only Blades in town this week.

Europe’s finest fencers can be found down at the EIS in Attercliffe.

More than 600 fencers from more than 30 different countries are competing for top honours in 30 different events during the European Fencing Championship which incorporates the IWAS European Wheelchair Championships 2011.

Piers Martin, Chief Executive of British Fencing, added: “We’ve waited a long time to host such a major championships and now it is here everyone is clearly very pleased and excited.

“It represents a great opportunity to showcase both fencing and wheelchair fencing as well as offering our GB fencers the chance to experience fencing in front of a home crowd ahead of next year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

The championships conclude on Tuesday.
