SOUTH Yorkshire’s oldest resident has celebrated another milestone birthday - her 111th.
Ethel Lang, who lives in a care home in Gilroyd, Barnsley, was joined for the special occasion by her 87-year-old daughter Margaret Bates and other proud friends and relatives eager to celebrate her long life. Mrs Lang, who was born in 1900 in Worsbrough Dale when Queen Victoria was on the throne and the Marquis of Salisbury was Prime Minister, is the fifth oldest person in the UK.
She had a love of dancing when she was younger, managed to dance at her 106th birthday but had a quieter affair for her latest special day - celebrating with a cup of tea and a slice of pork pie. She married William Lang in 1933 and the couple’s only daughter Margaret was born a year later.
The couple shared the same birthday but he was four years older and died at the age of 92.
