An eco-friendly Peak District outdoor pursuits centre is holding an open day to demonstrate just what can be achieved to save water and energy – and cut bills.

Parson House Outdoor Pursuits Centre, on Burbage Moor between Sheffield and Grindleford, is open to the public today between 1pm and 3pm.

Technology installed over the past year at a cost of £27,000 will be on show, including rainwater harvesting equipment used to flush the toilet, valves fitted to pipes and toilets to reduce water flow, and thicker insulation and draught exclusion.

Parson House centre manager Debbie Bell and her husband, chief instructor Gareth Bell, said: “It’s an unbelievable amount of water we are saving - particularly when a toilet is flushed.”
