Our readers’ photographic competition has got off to a flying start, with scores of entries arriving in the first few hours.
The competition offers cash prizes. We will set up a panel of judges to select the best pictures in the Sport and Leisure, Town and Country and Pets and Wildlife categories. There is also a category for young photographers, aged under 16 who enter any of these categories.
Winners of each category will receive £50 cash and an overall winner will receive an extra £200. All entrants will receive a £5 discount when spending more than £20 with sponors Peak Imaging.
A further category, celebrating Multi-Cultural Sheffield, will be judged separately by One Sheffield Many Cultures. The runner-up will receive £50 in Harrison Cameras vouchers and the winner will also receive £50 in vouchers plus £150 in cash.
We were prompted to launch the competition after being continually impressed by the quality of photographs submitted for inclusion on our Letters Pages.
Here are just three examples of the quality of pictures which have flooded into our office so far.
The competition is open until early April and any photograph taken during 2011 and up to the closing date is eligible, including those which have already been submitted to The Star.
A supplement of the best of the entries will be published on April 10 for readers to vote for their favourites and our judges will select winners from readers’ favourites.
Email pictures taken in our circulation area to firstname.lastname@example.org or post them to Photographic Competition, Editorial, The Star, York Street, Sheffield S1 1PU.
