After reading pages of letters regarding the recent mass felling of hundreds of fine trees around sheffield I would like to throw in my twopeneth.
I have been a tree surgeon in Sheffield for more than 40 years and have felled a considerable number of diseased elm trees in South Yorkshire.
The disease took nearly every elm tree even those which were injected in an effort to save them.
The elm tree at Brincliffe should never have been cut down – it was a fine healthy tree and should have had a tree preservation order.
The Brincliffe elm tree has gone the same way as the Brincliffe Oaks Hotel and been demolished.
