Elderly woman led to safety from smoke-filled flat

Firefighters led an elderly Sheffield woman to safety after her home started filling with smoke.

Crews were alerted to the incident on Lupton Walk, Lowedges, at 7.15pm on Monday to find a ground floor flat alight in a block.

Smoke from the empty flat had filtered into a flat on the top floor of the block, where an elderly woman in ill health lives.

Firefighters led her outside to safety.

Police were alerted to the fire and an investigation is underway.

Firefighters in Sheffield dealt with a blaze involving a Toyota Prius taxi on Spital Hill, Burngreave, Sheffield, that same night.
