YOUNGSTERS at a Sheffield children’s centre donned mini gowns and mortar boards for a ‘graduation’ ceremony - to mark the big move up form nursery to primary school.

The four-year-olds, who have been attending Sheffield Children’s Centre, on Shoreham Street, Highfield, looked the part as they gathered alongside parents and staff.

During the event, certificates were given out to each child by Professor Pat Broadhead - Professor of Playful learning at Leeds Metropolitan University.

There were tributes paid to adults who have helped out, then the children performed songs from musicals and a range of dancing and poems were read.

Prof Broadhead, who was born in Sheffield, said: “It is a privilege to be part of this celebration of the children’s achievements that come from the joint effort of the children, their families and community working with and supported by the centre.”

Organiser Chrissy Meleady, from Sheffield Children’s Centre, said: “The ceremony aimed to celebrate the importance of playful learning and development for the children.”
