THESE youngsters are among dozens in the borough taking part in a national bike race.

The youngsters, from Bawtry Mayflower Primary School are taking part in The Big Pedal, set up by the cycling organisation Sustrans.

The competition started this week, and will see schools awarded points for the number of children, parents and teachers who cycle to school on each day.

Each school is given a ‘time’ based on the numbers who cycle, with the fastest times given to the schools with the most people cycling.

The fastest school in the competition will receive a visit from an international cycling stunt display team.

The competition is run over a three week period.

Tom Collister, Sustrans officer for Doncaster, said he was pleased with the number of schools in the borough which had signed up for the competition.

He added: “It will act as a great way for the whole school to join together as they take on other schools.”
