Volunteers at Scawthorpe Library have celebrated their first year of running it themselves.

The team of bookworms took over a year ago after the library was threatened with closure due to cuts.

Volunteer Mabel Padley, 72, said: “We are doing very well.

“We still need volunteers because we can’t open every day so it would be good if more people could give it some of their time.

“If all the volunteers hadn’t volunteered, the library would have closed and it gives you a lot of satisfaction to think we’ve helped keep it going.”

Children who attended the special anniversary party were treated to a performance by a children’s entertainer.
