United’s new teen courses

Have your say

Teenagers unsure of their next move in education are being offered courses by Sheffield United which could help them learn the skills for a career in the sports industry.

The Blades’ community division The United Initiative offers a range of learning opportunities for 16- to 18-year-olds.

A 23-week foundation learning course, run by the club for the first time, contains a range of sport-based accredited modules such as sport leaders, first aid, English, maths and ICT.

Andy Ball, The United Initiative’s education officer, said: “The courses are open to young people who are not enrolled on any other education course and are an ideal alternative for students who want to pursue a career in the sports industry but feel college or sixth form isn’t the right option for them.”
