PROTESTERS battling against plans to school a Doncaster primary school took to the town centre to continue their fight.
Friends of Cantley Sycamore action group took the number of signatures on their petition up to 3,000 as they were joined by officials from the NUT teachers’ union on the steps of Mansion House.
Doncaster Council has proposed closing Cantley Sycamore Primary School as part of a schools review. It says it has a higher proportion of surplus places than any other school in the borough.
Annie Morgan, who chairs the action group, said 300 names were collected in around 30 minutes.
She said: “We want people to know that we are still fighting to keep the school open, and we are not giving up.
“We’ve now had a meeting with Doncaster Council which didn’t really answer all our questions and are waiting for the next stage.
“I think the number of people signing the petition shows the strength of support we have.”
Sycamore was praised as a good school by Ofsted in its inspection last year.
