Students drawing up plans for new gay centre

Have your say

A team of 13 Sheffield University architecture post-graduates are working on a project to create a new centre for gay people in the city.

The students have been given a deadline of seven weeks by Coun Neale Gibson, Sheffield Council Labour member for Walkley and secretary of the city’s LGBT group, to come up with ideas.

They are visiting similar centres across the country to seek inspiration.

Consultations have been held with the university’s LGBT committee and the students have met gay rights veterans.

A review of the progress made so far was held this week in the Arts Tower, where the next steps were planned.
