Store’s gift to city schools

SHEFFIELD MP David Blunkett swooped in on a supermarket to see how a scheme is benefiting youngsters in his constituency.

The politician visited Tesco Extra in Savile Street, Burngreave, as the store presented sports equipment and stationery to pupils from Westways and St Catherine’s RC primary schools.

It came following Tesco’s Vouchers for Schools campaign, which asks shoppers to collect tokens which can be exchanged for learning aids – from bats and balls to computers and books – across all subjects.

John Evans, compliance manager at Burngreave’s Tesco Extra, said: “We’ve already given schools the equipment they got for collecting the vouchers, this was just something extra we wanted to give to them.”
