A Sheffield mum who helps union members get back to learning has won a top award from the Trades Union Congress.
Sarah Barnes – who left school at 16 with no qualifications – has been named the top TUC union learning rep.
Sarah, a rep for the GMB, took advantage of union learning programmes and now works with the Doncaster branch of homeless charity Action Housing and Support.
Sarah’s most recent project has been to bid for union funds to buy eight tablets and a printer to further enable her learners to gain up-to-the-minute skills.
Sarah said: “My role is rewarding, being able to open up opportunities clients may not have even known about.
“I am proud to be able to help people get back to learning and it is wonderful to see them find success.”
