Sheffield Council is to honour a group of teachers and school staff who have retired after clocking up a staggering 531 years of service between them.

The 19 staff include Gill Peacock, headteacher at Broomhall Nursery School and Children’s centre, who has spent 33 years working as a teacher in Sheffield.

Mrs Peacock was presented with gifts and flowers at an end of term party to mark her departure.

Longest-serving of the group is Lindsey Green, a science technician at Bradfield School, who has clocked up 42 years.

Coun Jackie Drayton, Sheffield Council cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: “The council places on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the council by these staff.

“We extend to them our best wishes for the future for a long and happy retirement.”

The teachers and school staff will all be sent copies of the council’s Common Seal, in honour of their service with the authority.

Sheffield Council is also giving the same honour to two community services managers, Christine Ball and Wendy Burton, who have both retired after 35-year careers with the council, and Diane Cousins, an administration officer in bereavement services, who has retired after 29 years.
