Sheffield students’ union works to help students affected by housing woes

Students’ union reps say heating, a secure water supply and constant electricity have only just been fitted – three weeks into the new term – at student accommodation in a restored church in Crookesmoor, Sheffield.

Things hit crisis point last month when a Fire Safety notice was issued to The Heritage by the fire service, declaring the development at the junction of Crookesmoor Road and Barber Road unsafe.

“Students have suffered financially, emotionally and academically,” said students’ union welfare officer Tom Harrison. “Students’ union housing advisers have been working to ensure the development of The Heritage is safe and secure.”
