A Sheffield school has become the first to enter a multi-lingual poetry competition that celebrates cultural diversity.

Students at Parkwood Academy, Shirecliffe, sent their works in to the Mother Tongue Other Tongue contest, which attracted hundreds of entries from across Yorkshire yesterday.

Youngsters can submit an original or favourite poem in their mother tongue, or write a poem in a language they are studying.

An awards ceremony will be held in Sheffield in September.
