Sheffield schools are being encouraged to improve their meals as part of a national training scheme.
Schools with low take up for hot lunches can sign up for a £2,000 support package which will give help and advice to school leaders, caterers and cooks.
The Government-funded scheme aims to support freshly prepared, well sourced and healthy meals.
To qualify for support a school must have an overall meal take up of less than 43 per cent.
The programme is part of the School Food Plan, an independent review which was published last year, with increased take up being a key objective.
