Going to her prom was certainly a fairytale for one Sheffield teenager.

Megan Scarborough is an avid viewer of hit television show My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, so when it came to her school prom her family did all they can to bring a little of glitz and glamour to her day.

The 16-year-old Park Academy student was taken to the event in a Cinderella-style carriage drawn by two white horses.

Crowds gathered as Megan, dressed in a stunning white gown, was surprised by the horses and carriage outside her home on Harborough Avenue, Manor, and taken to the Hilton Hotel, at Victoria Quays, in the city centre.

Sister Paige, 20, also of Harborough Avenue, said she and parents Joanne Holland and Mark Scarborough had saved £400 to give Megan the treat.

She said: “My sister loves watching my Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. She is obsessed by it.

“We both watch it all the time and they always have horses and carriages and things like that.

“My mum and I looked online for ages trying to find a horse and carriage that could take Megan. We also wanted to get her a dress, which had been so hard because they’re so expensive.

“In the end, we bought a dress from Miss South Yorkshire.

“The horse and carriage was a surprise for Megan. She had no idea we were getting it for her.”

Megan was accompanied in the carriage by her best friend, Chloe Chadwick.

Mum Joanna added: “No-one at the school has ever had anyone arrive like this before. It’s such a treat for Megan.”
