Maths marvels from four Sheffield schools were doing battle today in the semi-finals of a national contest which has attracted almost 1,000 entries from across the country.
Pupils from Carterknowle Junior, Broomhill’s Ashdell Preparatory, Dore Primary and Hunter’s Bar Junior will be showing off their skills at the Explore Learning Sheffield centre on Ecclesall Road.
The final of the National Young Mathematicians’ Awards takes place at Cambridge University on Tuesday, December 9.
The schools have already won one round of the competition to reach the semi-final stage, but only five will make it through to the final.
Lia Haskett, of Explore Learning, said: “The teams who have made it through to this year’s semi-finals have done a fantastic job and should be very proud.
“They have beaten other teams in their regions and now it’s crunch time as they battle it out today.”
Pupils will be judged on problem-solving skills, teamwork and their ability to be systematic in their approach.
