Sheffield University has been named the second best institution in the region – just behind the table topper, York.
The ratings are published in the new edition of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide.
Sheffield came top of the tree in Yorkshire when it came to the most satisfied students – and nationally it finished in joint 18th place, up three on last year.
A survey found that 72 per cent of graduates moved on to professional jobs or graduate-level studies, again behind only York in the regional table.
And the guide says that more than £1,500 is spent on facilities for each student at the university, also second to York.
Sheffield Hallam University is ranked seventh in the region, in 77th place nationally, slightly down on 2012. Nearly 58 per cent of graduates had found good jobs.
