A leading Sheffield academic has joined forces with students to sign a pledge of support to end discrimination towards people with mental health problems.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Liz Barnes is backing charity MIND’s Time to Change national campaign along with the student union.

She said: “One in six adults and one in 10 young people has a mental health problem and one third of those people have felt stigmatised because of it.

“At Hallam we take a proactive approach but recognise more can be done to tackle this stigma.”

The university is promising to carry out checks to ensure policies and procedures meet the current mental health needs as well as running roadshow events throughout the year.
