Sheffield College’s new flagship city centre campus has been shortlisted for a major national environmental award.
Sheffield City College off Granville Road is up for a Green Gown Award in recognition of its key sustainable features.
It also now has a Green Trail to raise awareness of environmental issues using the campus as a key example.
The trail which was launched last year familiarises new students with its environmental features both in the grounds and the green technology that defines the building.
Students use a guide and hand held mobile telephone and tablet devices to independently find information hidden in quick response codes around the campus.
The building which opened in 2010 has four wind turbines, photovoltaic cells mounted on the south facing façade, rainwater recycling, recycled heating, green landscaping including grass roofs, a wildflower meadow and waste recycling facilities.
The awards are open to universities, colleges and other learning centres around the UK.
The winners will be announced in Manchester in November.
