Past pupils of a South Yorkshire school marking its 50th anniversary this year took a trip down memory lane at a special celebration.

Alumni from Dinnington Comprehensive School, which opened in 1963, were able to see their old classroom photographs and trophies in a special exhibition.

Current students gave guided tours to groups at the summer fair, which also included a sports competition, karaoke and more than 50 stalls.

Donations on the day collected £2,000 towards the next phase of a school memorial garden and to enhance student dining areas.

A school spokesman said: “It was nice to see former students coming back to see how the school has changed. Some visitors had left the school in 1958 at the age of 14.

“For those who wanted to reminisce, we had an exhibition of photographs, press articles, cups and awards from the last 50 years and beyond.”

Other events to celebrate the anniversary include a reunion on Saturday, September 21, extended student assemblies and the publication of a book about the anniversary. Former pupils are invited to contribute.
