CHILDREN from a Sheffield school took part in a fun run – and the event was attended by a very special guest.

Pupils at Woodthorpe Community Primary joined in the races, with money raised going to Treetop House and Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Year 5 schoolboy Mitchell Mason was there to help start the races – and even joined in the running, despite having to learn to walk again just months ago.

Mitchell, aged nine, was knocked down on Harborough Avenue, Manor, in June.

He suffered serious head injuries and needed emergency surgery.

Mum Leasa Ward lived full-time at the Children’s Hospital while Mitchell was recovering, thanks to accommodation provided by Treetop House.

Head Dave Smith said: “We are really proud of all our children but Mitchell’s bravery and spirit is amazing.”
