Three Rotherham College students are hoping they’ll soon be off to Abu Dhabi if they are successful in a prestigious skills competition.
Emily Day and Kyle Somerset, both aged 19, and Connor Kirkby, 17, are competing in the WorldSkills UK Competition at the NEC in Birmingham from November 13.
The winner in their section will be selected to compete in the World Skills Competition in the Middle Eastern city in 2017.
Emily is a make-up student while Kyle and Connor study IT, using their expertise to build a website in the qualifying round.
Emily said: “I’m really excited and nervous about the finals but I know it will be lots of fun. I have lots of people supporting me and I’ve received 100 per cent support from college.”
Kyle and Connor’s tutor Darren Bristow added: “I’m really happy they have had a go and taken part in the competition. To be offered a position in the top 15 in the country is a great accomplishment.”
The competition aims to inspire young people to pursue skills to the highest level.
