Pupils at a Rotherham school are celebrating after winning first prize in an environmental competition for primaries across the north of England.

Children at The Hill Primary Academy created an igloo to work and play in using recycled plastic milk bottles - and won £500 in the Total Green School awards.

The project, which needed 600 bottles to complete, was voted the best from entries submitted by almost 44,500 pupils.

The youngsters were inspired by a class topic entitled The Frozen Planet.

Judge Peter Littlewood said: “The igloo really showed how our rubbish can be turned into something useful.”
