A GROUP of lucky Barnsley schoolchildren who scooped the once-in-a-lifetime chance to win tickets to London 2012 have headed down to the capital to see the action.

Children from across the town were awarded tickets as part of the Newham Barnsley Partnership’s Praise Postcards scheme, which in the past year has enabled students, teachers and parents to nominate children for outstanding achievements in school.

Some 26 pairs of tickets were given to children from schools including Keresforth Primary, The Hill, Penistone Grammar, Barugh Green Primary and Thurgoland Primary. Winners included promising young athlete Matthew Miller, from Dearne Advanced Learning Centre, who got the chance to watch some of the boxing.
