GROUND Force star Alan Titchmarsh has nothing on these green-fingered youngsters from a Doncaster school.

Around 30 pupils from Hatfield Manor primary headed to Manor View care home in their home village to transform the gardens at the retirement home for its elderly residents.

Sue Jordan, a teaching assistant at the school, was proud of the youngsters’ efforts. She said the children went to the old folks’ residential home to help tidy their garden and plant some flowers around the grounds.

She said: “Hopefully we will be going back throughout the school term to upkeep their garden and hopefully plant some vegetables in raised beds for them to do themselves.”

It was not the first time that the Cuckoo Lane school has been to visit the home, which is on Manor Road.

Pupils had previously performed in a carol concert at the home at Christmas and it was while they were entertaining the residents that the plans for help with the home’s garden were first drawn up by staff.
