A PRINCIPAL has been appointed by governors of a new Barnsley secondary due to open in September.
Toby Eastaugh is to take charge of Netherwood Advanced Learning Centre, which is to be formed by the closure and amalgamation of the existing Darfield Foulstone School of Creative Arts and Wombwell High School. He will be joining from Spen Valley Sports College in Kirklees and is said to be ‘committed to developing the new ALC into an outstanding school and community facility’.
The governors paid tribute to the hard work undertaken by staff at both Wombwell and Foulstone to raise standards in each school, leading to their removal from the failing list.
Chair of governors Bob Bloomer said: “This is an exciting time for Netherwood as the construction phase draws to a close.
“The Advanced Learning Centre is part of the borough-wide provision of new modern facilities for learning and is designed to sit comfortably within the country park.
“It will provide an excellent environment for learning and is intended to be a resource that the community will feel proud to be associated with.”
