Two of Doncaster’s primary schools are to be combined early next year.

Plans for the amalgamation of Doncaster Road Junior School and Mexborough Pitt Street Infant School were unanimously given the go-ahead at a meeting of Doncaster Council’s cabinet yesterday.

Currently, Doncaster Road Junior School provides education for children aged seven to 11, while Pitt Street Infant School caters for three- to seven-year-olds.

Under the council’s plans, Doncaster Road Junior School will close on January 3 next year, and on January 4 Pitt Street Infant School will reopen on both school sites to children aged three to 11.

The school will provide education to all existing pupils, with the current staff, and it is hoped the merger will improve standards.
