PUPILS from two Sheffield schools will form a guard of honour ahead of the Olympic Games opening ceremony next month.
The youngsters from Darnall’s Phillimore Primary and Handsworth Grange will line the route used by athletes to get from the Olympic Park into the main stadium for the ceremony on July 27.
The groups will join youngsters from 249 other schools from across the UK making up the 2,000 student guard of honour, holding lanterns and banners they have created to support one of the 204 competing teams.
Phillimore will be particularly welcoming the Montenegro team and will learn more about the country’s culture and athletes at World Sport Day on June 25. The pupils will also get the chance to tour the Olympic Park.
