Proposals to create a new primary school in Tinsley by refurbishing and extending an existing building are recommended for approval at a planning committee meeting on Tuesday.
Merging Tinsley Nursery, Infant and Junior Schools to create Tinsley Meadows Primary School was approved by Sheffield Council’s cabinet last year. However, planning permission is needed before work at the Tinsley Green Centre, on Norborough Road, can begin.
The new school is needed to satisfy demand for pupil places in the area. Its current location near the M1 motorway, which brings higher levels of pollution and noise, is considered unsuitable too.
Meanwhile councillors are also asked to approve the demolition of the existing junior school buildings. The land will then be used as an open space for the public.
