Bus services for Barnsley pupils which were in jeopardy after a local transport firm ceased trading have been saved by Stagecoach Yorkshire.
The operator added extra services and increased capacity after learning that another company had ceased trading, causing travel difficulties for students living in the Brierley, Shafton, Cudworth and Grimethorpe areas.
Students at Shafton ALC and Hemsworth Arts and Community Academy were among those affected after bus services were suddenly suspended.
John Young, acting commercial director for Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “We were made aware that some students had effectively been left stranded and we responded rapidly.
“We surveyed the areas affected and went out to speak to the schools.”
