A new research project has been launched in Sheffield to find out how babies and toddlers learn on their own.

Dr Elena Hoicka, from the University of Sheffield, is seeking to discover how children explore the world around them and whether different children explore in different ways.

Parents are invited to participate in the study by completing a survey online during the month of September.

Dr Hoicka wants to hear from parents of all types of children, including those with typical development to those with Down syndrome or who have autism.

She said: “While social learning is very important, we often overlook the strategies children might take to learn on their own.

“Parents and others aren’t always there to show kids what to do.
