Sheffield’s newest school is holding an official opening celebration on Friday.

The event is being held as a thank you to all the organisations, groups and supporters that have helped Chapeltown Academyy get off the ground at its new side on Hydra Business Park, Nether Lane.

The academy, which offers a range of A-level courses for sixth-formers, opened its doors to its first students last month.

Parents and representatives from businesses, churches and community groups have all been invited to the event which will feature speeches, student performances, music, refreshments and entertainment.

On Saturday, from 10.30am to noon, it is holding an open morning for young people thinking of enrollin.

Year 11s and their parents will be able to meet staff and students and get a taste of life at the academy, with a variety of fun activities planned.

Rebecca Maxted, headteacher, said: “We hope the Saturday event might provide an opportunity for people to make up their own minds about our school.”

The academy was set up to offer an alternative for students who were travelling out of the area to sixth-form schools across the city.
