A COUPLE were put through a terrifying ordeal at the hands of masked, knife-wielding car thieves outside their Doncaster home.
Sheffield Crown Court heard Ricky Langford, aged 23, and Kyle Roberts threatened the man and woman in their driveway after trying to break into their home in Morley Road, Conisbrough.
Police said the couple became aware someone was trying to break in on Sunday, April 3, at 10.45pm.
They went outside the house, where they were threatened on their driveway by Langford and Roberts, who were both wearing masks.
One of them was holding a large knife.
The masked duo demanded the keys for one of the two vehicles parked on the driveway - and then went on to steal one of them.
The car was found crashed five minutes later in Sheffield Road, Conisbrough.
Roberts, of no fixed address, was found close to the vehicle. He was arrested and later charged with robbery, which he admitted at Sheffield Crown Court earlier this year.
Langford has also now been found guilty of robbery, following a trial, also at Sheffield Crown Court.
The 25-year-old, also of no fixed address, was identified after the incident through forensic examination of the car.
He was arrested by the police and charged with robbery, which he denied, leading to the trial.
Both men have been remanded in custody and are due to be sentenced in January 2012.
Detective Constable Jon White, who led the investigation, said he was delighted with the conviction.
He said: “This is a great result and I am pleased with the verdict.
“The couple have been very distressed and upset by this incident.
“Hopefully the guilty verdict and the impending sentencing will help them to move on.”
