A SUCCESSFUL career is proving a snip for hairdresser Lucy Graham – after she was named Sheffield College’s Apprentice of the Year.
Lucy, aged 22, from Chapeltown, now works full time at Capelli’s salon in Hunters Bar after completing her two year course.
She was surprised and delighted to gain the top award at a college awards night at the City Hall.
The former Hinde House pupil said: “I signed up for my training course which saw me working at the salon and also attending the City College campus once a week.
“My sister is a hairdresser and it was always an ambition of mine when I first left school, but the first route I went down was taking a beauty therapy course.
“But now I absolutely love the job – you’re always meeting new people and learning new things.
“The apprenticeship route is a really good way to get into a job and Sheffield College was a good place to study.”
Lucy said: “Perhaps one day I’d like to try a job on a cruise liner – now I’m qualified anything is possible.
“Starting my apprenticeship was the best thing I ever did.”
