CONSTRUCTION of new central reservation barriers has meant the introduction of 50mph speed limits and narrow lanes on part of the M18 near Doncaster.
The scheme involves replacing the steel central reservation barrier with a safer, concrete barrier, renewing manhole covers and surveying drainage near junction 5 at Hatfield by the end of June.
It is the latest of several barrier schemes being delivered along the M18 since last September to improve safety for the travelling public.
During the work a 50mph speed limit will be in place to ensure the safety of road users and workers for 24 hours a day.
In order to set up the traffic management it will be necessary to close the M18 between junctions 4 and 5 from 10pm to 4am on two nights – northbound on Wednesday, June 1, and southbound on Thursday, June 2.
During the closures signed diversion routes will be in place.
When the southbound carriageway is closed traffic will be diverted off the M18 junction 5, east along the M180 to junction 1, south along A18 and through Hatfield and Dunsville to the Westmoor Link to M18 junction 4.
The same diversion will operate in reverse when the northbound carriageway is closed.
Project manager Tim Calvert said: “The new barriers are stronger and more robust.
“They will reduce the risk of vehicles involved in accidents crossing from one side of the motorway to the other.”
