The unit of 4 YORKS carried out the physical tests as part of a Barnsley-wide initiative aimed at helping to equip youngsters with the skills needed to build a successful career in their chosen vocations.

The special event was held at The Dearne Advanced Learning Centre and students from The Dearne ALC, Outwood Academy Shafton, Outwood Academy Carlton, Holy Trinity and Horizon Community College took part in a series of tasks and challenges.

The challenges were devised by the Army Reserve in conjunction with Made in Barnsley; a long-term initiative helped by Barnsley Healthcare Federation to provide year nine pupils with the opportunity to learn skills and techniques from local businesses to build their future careers.

All students attending the event were chosen as ambassadors to represent Made in Barnsley.

They will later be given the opportunity to share their skills and knowledge to future pupils enrolled onto the programme.

Training and professional development manager at Barnsley Healthcare Federation, Kelly Drury, said: “The Made in Barnsley programme is designed to showcase the variety of job opportunities available in the borough to young people when they leave school.”
