A Sheffield primary school marked a new era with a visit from Bishop John Rawsthorne - who opened its refurbished library.

St John Fisher RC Primary at Hackenthorpe is in the middle of a major refurbishment programme which was kicked off by a Government improvement grant of £150,000.

The cash helped create a new entrance area for the school which was looking tired and in need of a brush-up.

But it was a new Parent Teacher Friends’ Association which took on the task of remodelling the library.

Headteacher Frank Barrett said the project had been carried out on a shoestring budget with the help of parents and pupils.

“We are passionate about books and reading and the work done by the PTFA has been just amazing,” he said.
