Lecturers at Sheffield University staged a marathon 24-hour lecture in memory of a colleague who lost a brave battle against cancer.

The event also paid tribute to a similar event staged by Dr Tim Richardson on his own in November 2011 in aid of Children in Need.

Dr Richardson died in February 2013 after being diagnosed with bowel cancer in the summer of 2012.

Lecturers spoke on subjects from the love life of insects and surviving Warsaw to miscarriages of justice and the risky business of life.

Free coffee was available to keep the audience awake.
