SHEFFIELD High School has its own karate kid – Amy Bateman, who has gained the martial art’s coveted black belt at the age of 15.
The award has come from the Shukokai Karate Union National, which sets standards and regulations for the martial art.
Amy said: “I’m happy, as it was lots of work. In two years I hope to move up to the next level, second dan.”
Amy first took up karate at a club set up at Sheffield High’s junior department when she was just 10.
Her achievement in reaching black belt standard is a first for the school’s karate club, which has greatly expanded in recent years.
