PUPILS at a north Derbyshire secondary school are going up the wall - thanks to help from a local company.
A fully repaired and revamped climbing wall is back in operation at Hope Valley College following construction work by experts from Lafarge’s nearby cement works.
After an appeal from the college, project engineer Richard Worthington put his thinking cap on to investigate the cause of unsound brickwork on the gym’s wall, which had put the climbing apparatus out of action.
Richard, also a college governor, was able to quickly identify the problem.
“The solution ended up being considerably more complex than first expected and so took longer. The college did not have the funds to progress the project so Lafarge was able to step in and help.”
