GREEN-FINGERED youngsters are ready to get down to work after receiving a gift of gardening equipment.

Pupils from the Southfield Primary School Gardening Club, the Children’s Centre Allotment Gang and local volunteers turned out at the allotments in Armthorpe to pick up equipment donated by retail chain Wilkinson.

They are taking part in the Armthorpe Community Allotment project, Thorham Close, Armthorpe.

Armthorpe’s children’s allotment was brought about by the Armthorpe Improvement Movement after it was given a site by Doncaster Council to help youngsters understand and involve themselves in growing and cultivating flowers.

It is a community project with time donated each week by adults. Wilkinson donated a wheelbarrow, seeds, compost, garden cane, bonemeal, netting and an oscillator, to get the garden growing.
