Sheffield’s renowned metalwork collection will shine brighter after the approval of a £110,000 funding boost.
The Millenium Gallery is to revitalise its collections of cutlery, metalwork and flatware - which total 13,000 items and has been classed as a designated collection - thanks to the money from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the Wolfson Foundation.
New mobile wall structures, LED lighting, freestanding cabinets and flexible cases will be installed at the Museums Sheffield facility from October.
Chief executive Kim Streets said: “The metalwork collection is one of the jewels in Sheffield’s crown and a testament to the city’s worldwide reputation for craftmanship and excellence.”
The new display will be unveiled in February 2015.
