The Lord Mayor of Sheffield marked her birthday with some flippin’ good fun at a development trust.

Woodthorpe Development Trust’s special needs inclusion playcare service – Snips – invited Coun Vickie Priestley to visit its short breaks club.

She enjoyed lunch with the club and tossed pancakes ahead of Shrove Tuesday today.

Coun Priestley said: “Woodthorpe Short Breaks is a wonderful resource for families and delivers a high-quality service supporting some of Sheffield’s most vulnerable families.

“It was great fun being involved in the traditional art of pancake tossing.”

Margaret Gregory, club co-ordinator, said: “Everyone had an amazing morning playing games with the Lord Mayor. It was fun throwing the pancakes in the air.”

Patrick Meleady, trust operations manager, said: “The Lord Mayor had lunch, tossed pancakes and celebrated her birthday.

“It was a great honour for the short breaks team to receive a visit from our Lord Mayor and consort and the pancake session was brilliant. Some of the pancakes must have been tossed more than 30ft into the air landing back into the pan.”
