TROUT were released into a Sheffield river as the culmination of a project which saw pupils raising the fish for three months from eggs.
Youngsters from Hunter’s Bar Infants and Porter Croft Church of England Primary took part in the scheme which was funded by Marks and Spencer.
Fish reared in classroom aquariums, fed daily and with the water temperature carefully monitored, were given a new home in the Porter Brook.
By taking part in the project, the schoolchildren also contributed to the development of a new ‘pocket park’ which is nearing completion in Hickmott Road.
The site is being rejuvenated by environmental organisation Groundwork with funding from the Sharrow Vale Community Association.
