A MYSTERIOUS giant egg has been discovered in the grounds of a Sheffield school...

Fascinated youngsters are investigating after the strange find came to light at Rivelin Primary - and have been instructed by the Ministry for the Investigation of Strange Objects to carry out a probe.

The egg has been sealed off in a secure unit with warning signs draped over it.

And theories are abounding about the egg’s origins.

“We’ve had all sorts of ideas from the youngsters - some think it could be a dragon lizard egg and others think it has a superhero hiding inside!” said teacher Sheenagh Kilby.

“It’s certainly not every day you find a giant egg in the school grounds.

“We have taped off the area and there are posters up warning everyone to be careful.

“The kids have also got a letter from the Ministry for the Investigation of Strange Objects saying our school has been chosen to take part in the investigation.”

Excited pupils will investigate their discovery all of this week as part of a project aimed at inspiring youngsters to write.

Year 5 and 6 students are to become budding journalists to author a special report.

Sheenagh, who is also literacy co-ordinator at the school on Morley Street, added: “We’ve had children dragging their parents into school to see the egg.

“They are drawing it and writing poems and stories about it.

“Even I didn’t think it would take off as much as it has - it’s really caught their imaginations.”
