The Waterfront Restaurant at Doncaster College’s The Hub Campus was packed full with students and their parents to celebrate student successes from the Travel and Catering courses over the past academic year.
Jane Fishwick, Assistant Director for Travel, Business and Catering opened the awards ceremony and the many students were commended on their hard work over the past year.
Awards were given to Student of the Year, Most Improved Student and the Industry Ready Award which was sponsored by the Holiday Inn Doncaster.
The first award on the evening was the Joseph Jubb Award, this award was in memory of Joseph, a student who sadly passed away in October 2013 whilst studying with Doncaster College. Joseph had been a student within the department for three years and had made a big impact to many of the staff and students that he worked alongside. Joseph’s grandparents gave an emotional speech about their grandson before presenting the award to Cameron Morshead.
Cameron was presented the award for meeting the following criteria; Demonstrates a high level of respect to others, shows a high level of commitment to college, shows tenacity, determination and respect, ability to overcome obstacles, resilient in the face of adversity and demonstrates an appetite to succeed.
The criteria for this award was decided by the catering team, based around Joseph’s personality.
Students and their guests were treated to some culinary delights to celebrate the end of the awards ceremony.
Amanda Gleadall, Programme Co-ordinator for the area said, “This is always a highlight of the year for us. It’s fantastic to see the achievements of all our students recognised in this event, and to see how they have grown and developed over the year, and for them to also see each other’s achievements and have them acknowledged, it’s very inspiring”
